Loyle Carner, the talented British artist, made waves last year with the release of his highly acclaimed album, Hugo. This being his third album, it generated a lot of buzz and was even nominated for the prestigious Mercury Prize. Written in the midst of the pandemic, Hugo delves deep into Carner’s experiences with isolation and introspection, following his previous album, Not Waving, But Drowning, by three years.
During the creative process, Carner drew inspiration from his struggles with ADHD and dyslexia, as well as his complicated relationship with his estranged father. These personal themes added a layer of depth and authenticity to the album, resonating with fans and critics alike. In a bold move, Carner decided to bring the album to life with a live performance at the iconic Royal Albert Hall in October of last year.
The performance was a mesmerizing experience, with Carner being joined on stage by a stellar lineup of guest musicians and performers. The talented lineup included the likes of Sampha, Jordan Rakei, JNR Williams, John Agard, Wesley Joseph, and Athian Akec, who added their own unique flair to the performance. The energy and emotion of the live show truly brought Carner’s music to life, solidifying his reputation as a dynamic and engaging performer in the music industry.
