Finding Cole: A Chronicle of J. Cole’s Surprising Appearances

By: Miki Hellerbach

Of the three prominent figures in hip-hop, J. Cole is known as the “everyman.” While Kendrick Lamar is seen as a genius and Drake as a popstar, Cole has always shown the least interest in fame. A recent example of this is when Cole decided to step back from the rap battle between titans. He was the first to respond to Kendrick’s provocative verse in Future and Metro Boomin’s “Like That,” but quickly apologized and retracted his diss. During his Dreamville festival in Raleigh, North Carolina, Cole publicly declared that he was finished with the conflict, calling it “the lamest goofiest shit.” He then removed the track “7 Minute Drill” from streaming platforms.

Cole’s focus on his purpose and path has led him to be frequently spotted among the general public rather than getting caught up in high-profile feuds. Fans and ordinary people alike have encountered the easily identifiable rapper in unexpected places, often without any security, simply enjoying life’s simple pleasures. One such instance was when he was seen shopping for a Cybertruck in New York City last week.

Here are a few heartwarming and sometimes humorous moments of Cole blending in with the crowd.
