Freeway recently shared his thoughts on Rick Ross using his name without permission, and he didn’t hold back. According to Freeway, Rick Ross exhibited problematic behavior as a corrections officer, which included taking money and dice from inmates playing dice and confiscating extra soup. Freeway expressed his disbelief that someone with this background could portray themselves as the “biggest gangsta rapper on the planet.”
Furthermore, Freeway expressed his frustration that Rick Ross never approached him about using his name. He emphasized the lack of respect and acknowledgment from Rick Ross, stating that he never paid homage or admitted to taking the name. In 2010, Freeway filed a lawsuit against Rick Ross regarding the name usage, but unfortunately, he lost the case due to technicalities regarding the first public knowledge of Rick Ross using the name.
During a conversation with Rogan, Freeway mentioned the two-year statute of limitations in such cases and revealed that he was only 5 days late in filing his lawsuit. Despite spending $1.5 million on legal fees, Rick Ross’ team never offered Freeway any compensation. At the time, Freeway’s mother was facing eviction, and he would have accepted any amount to help her keep her home.
Freeway clarified that his main issue wasn’t about the money but the lack of respect and consideration shown by Rick Ross. He believed that a simple conversation and acknowledgment would have sufficed. However, he did mention that he would have accepted $250,000 or even $300,000, as he didn’t require much money to get back on his feet.
