Ski Mask took to Twitter to call out those who were deeply entrenched in the YouTube conspiracy rabbit hole regarding the tragic death of XXXTentacion, urging them to step outside and touch some grass. XXXTentacion was fatally shot near a motorcycle dealership in Deerfield Beach, Florida in June 2018, leading to the arrest of four suspects who were charged with first-degree murder. Despite the arrests, rumors swirled that Drake had ordered a hit on the rapper.
The controversy began in 2017 when XXXTentacion rose to fame with his breakout track “Look At Me,” a song that featured a unique flow that some fans believed Drake mimicked in his own song “KMT.” Feeling that something was not right, XXXTentacion posted a video accusing Drake of stealing his flow. Adding fuel to the fire, XXXTentacion tweeted a few months before his death implicating Drake in a potential attack on his life.
The conspiracy theory gained traction during XXXTentacion’s murder trial, particularly when Drake was served a subpoena to provide a virtual deposition for the case. However, the Florida judge ultimately ruled that Drake did not have to appear, stating that there was no substantial evidence linking him to the murder. Ultimately, the suspects involved in XXXTentacion’s death, Dedrick Williams, Michael Boatwright, and Trayvon Newsome, were found guilty and sentenced to life in prison.
