Usher was honored with the 2024 BET Lifetime Achievement Award during the recent BET Awards ceremony. The event, which took place on Sunday night (June 30), featured a heartfelt tribute to Usher’s enduring talent. Legendary songwriting duo Jimmy Jam and Terry Lewis kicked off the tribute by reflecting on Usher’s remarkable career, which began when he was just a teenager. A video montage highlighting Usher’s decades-long impact on the music industry was shown, with testimonials from Jennifer Hudson, Jermaine Dupri, Janelle Monáe, Toni Braxton, and other music stars praising his skills as a dancer, singer, songwriter, and artist.
The tribute continued with a medley of Usher’s most iconic songs performed by a lineup of talented artists spanning various genres. Childish Gambino mesmerized the audience with a soulful rendition of “U Don’t Have to Call,” followed by Keke Palmer’s energetic take on “You Make Me Wanna.” Summer Walker, Coco Jones, Marsha Ambrosius, Chloe, and Tinashe then took the stage to perform hits like “Good Good,” “There Goes My Baby,” “Confessions,” “Good Kisser,” and “Nice and Slow.” Victoria Monét and Teyana Taylor paid homage to Usher’s classic performance of “Bad Girl,” with Latto wrapping up the tribute by delivering a spirited rendition of “Yeah!”
