New Album by Bashy, ‘Being Poor Is Expensive’, is a Must-Listen

Bashy has made a triumphant return with his latest album, “Being Poor Is Expensive.” This album marks only his second official release, following his 2009 project, “Catch Me If You Can.” “Being Poor Is Expensive” is an 11-track album filled with deeply personal stories from Bashy’s childhood in Brent, reflecting on the highs and lows of his career, and exploring the complexities of being a Black Briton. With features from Skrapz, Haile, and Roses Gabor, the album feels intimate and authentic.

Production-wise, Toddla T took the lead on most of the album, working closely with Bashy. Additional production credits go to Benji B, PRGSHN, and Aaron Levy. The album’s rollout has been nothing short of spectacular, with press shots taken by the iconic photographer Dennis Morris. Bashy also engaged in a series of filmed conversations for BBC Radio 1Xtra and “The Reasoning,” where he and his friends, including ENNY, Posty, Kano, and Reni Eddo-Lodge, delved into the themes explored in the album. It’s clear that Bashy is savoring this moment and pouring his heart and soul into this project.
