Judge Ural Glanville has been recused from the YSL RICO case involving Young Thug, according to Fulton County documents viewed by Complex on Monday. The court cited the reason for the recusal as “preserving the public’s confidence in the judicial system.” However, it also stated that there was “no doubt” that Glanville could have continued presiding over the case fairly if he had not been recused.
The decision to recuse Glanville came after concerns were raised following a meeting with state witness Kenneth Copeland, which led to the trial being paused. The recent documents describe the aftermath of the meeting, including objections from Defendant Williams’ lawyer, Brian Steel, and a contempt charge against Steel by Glanville.
Aside from this incident, the trial has faced continuous criticism since it began last November. Glanville himself has been criticized for various aspects of the proceedings, including a publicized jail call between Young Thug and Mariah the Scientist that caught the attention of Drake.
Complex has reached out to Thug’s lawyer, Brian Steel, for comment on the recent developments in the case. Stay tuned for updates on this ongoing story.
