Charli XCX discusses the meaning behind remixing “Girl, So Confusing” with Lorde and how it ties into the song’s storyline

Charli XCX and Lorde have finally collaborated on the remix of their song “Girl, so confusing.” The two pop singers were often compared to each other in the early 2010s, with Charli admitting to feeling jealous of Lorde at one point. Lorde’s name naturally came up during Charli’s recent Billboard cover story.

Longtime fans of both artists could easily see the connection in “Girl, so confusing,” leading Charli to share an early version of the song with Lorde before its official release. Charli explained to the publication that she had to make sure Lorde was okay with the song being about her before moving forward. Despite difficulties in coordinating a meeting, Charli eventually reached out to Lorde with a voice note the day before the song was set to be released.

Lorde responded immediately, expressing surprise at how Charli felt and suggesting that she should be on a version of the song. Charli was taken aback by Lorde’s proposal, as she had not even considered asking her to be part of the remix.
