Denzel Curry Embraces His Southern Roots in ‘King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2’

Denzel Curry returns two years after the release of his album “Melt My Eyez” with a new project that delves into the rich musical history of the South. Titled “King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2,” Curry pays homage to the lo-fi eeriness of early horrorcore and Memphis rap, channeling triplet flows, muffled hi-hats, and menacing lyrics that are reminiscent of some of his biggest inspirations.

Leading up to the album release, Curry dropped “HOT ONE,” a high-energy track featuring Tiacorine and ASAP Ferg that premiered on his explosive On The Radar session. The club hit promises to ignite any party, drawing comparisons to Three 6 Mafia’s classic “Tear Da Club Up.” Additionally, Curry collaborated with Texas rapper That Mexican OT on “BLACK FLAG FREESTYLE,” showcasing his versatility and ability to adapt to different sounds.

Throughout the album, Curry enlists the help of various artists including Raider Klan OG Key Nyata, Maxo Kream, 2 Chainz, Project Pat, and Memphis rap pioneer Kingpin Skinny Pimp. The inclusion of these features adds depth and diversity to the project, highlighting Curry’s ability to collaborate with a range of talent.

Under his alter ego Raven Miyagi, Curry gained recognition with his mixtape that caught the attention of Odd Future. Since then, Curry has continued to evolve as an artist, leaving Raider Klan behind and releasing his debut album “Nostalgic 64” in 2013. His journey from the Blog Era to now showcases his growth and resilience as a musician.

To celebrate the release of “King of the Mischievous South Vol. 2,” Pigeons & Planes will be hosting a release party in New York. For more information on the event, you can visit their website. Get a taste of what’s to come by watching the music video for “BLACK FLAG FREESTYLE” below.
