Some fans of the rapper known as Scarlet were convinced that the lyrics in her latest song were directed towards her biological father, Dumisani Dlamini, a South African entertainer. After some provocative comments from fans, Doja, the rapper, responded with some direct remarks regarding her father, such as “Go give the deadbeat a kiss on the lips for me,” and “Gave me a lazy eye and dipped.”
However, Doja later edited the caption, suggesting that her temporary resentment towards her father had subsided. “jk love you i was mad,” she wrote in the updated caption.
Doja, who was brought up by her Jewish mother, Deborah Elizabeth Sawyer, alongside her brother, Raman Dalithando Dlamini, has discussed her father in various interviews. Although they have never met face to face, she revealed that they have been in touch through Instagram.
In a 2019 interview with Radio One D.C., Doja mentioned that her father, who is known for his dancing and acting abilities, occasionally comments on her pictures. Despite expressing interest in meeting him when she was 13, she made it clear that she would be open to the idea of meeting him in the future.
The rapper had previously crossed paths with Whoopi Goldberg, who acted alongside Dlamini in the 1992 film Sarafina!. During their meeting, Doja expressed her regret at not being able to meet her father while complimenting him. Goldberg responded by praising Dlamini as a genuinely good man.
Overall, Doja’s complex relationship with her father continues to be a topic of interest for fans, with the rapper remaining open to the possibility of one day meeting the man who has been a presence in her life, albeit through digital channels.
