Chicago-based rapper Lil Zay Osama has admitted guilt to a charge of possessing a machine gun following an incident in 2022 where a loaded firearm was found in a rideshare vehicle. According to a report from the New York Daily News, Osama made his plea during a court appearance in Brooklyn.
During the appearance, the artist, known for tracks like “Go,” confessed to knowingly having a machine gun in Queens County on September 29, 2022. He expressed remorse for his actions, acknowledging that possessing the weapon was unlawful.
Currently, online jail records indicate that the 26-year-old rapper is detained at MDC Brooklyn, with his release date unknown. Attempts to reach out to his representative for comment have been made by Complex, and any updates on the situation will be provided accordingly.
Back in January, a federal grand jury indicted Osama, whose real name is Isaiah Dukes, on charges of possessing a machine gun and unregistered firearm. If convicted on all counts, he could face a maximum of 20 years in prison. However, the sentence for the machine gun charge he pleaded guilty to is expected to be less severe.
The incident that led to Osama’s arrest in 2022 involved him allegedly carrying a modified Glock that could fire automatically. Police considered this modification to turn the gun into a machine gun, as it could shoot multiple rounds with a single trigger pull. He was apprehended after reportedly leaving the firearm in a rideshare vehicle post-trip from a Manhattan hotel to a Queens recording studio.
Prosecutors argued in April that Osama should remain detained, citing concerns about him fleeing and posing a threat to society. They also highlighted another gun-related incident in Chicago in December involving Osama.
