The Weeknd recently had an interesting conversation with his 10-year-old self, Abel Tesfaye, in an OpenAI-assisted interview. The pop star remarked that his younger self seemed to use the word “superpower” a bit too frequently. The interview, done in collaboration with 032c and SSENSE, took on an experimental format, with The Weeknd’s image recorded and rendered by Harmony Korine’s EDGLRD, known for his work on the upcoming film AGGRO DR1FT.
The idea to connect with his past came to The Weeknd in a dream about his childhood home where he found himself locked out. This unsettling but thought-provoking dream prompted him to delve into his past and explore his roots, leading to the unique interview.
During their conversation, The two Abels shared insights into their favorite cartoons. Young Abel Tesfaye enjoyed watching Tom & Jerry, Dragon Ball Z, South Park, and The Simpsons (where he later made a guest appearance). On the other hand, the present-day Tesfaye leans towards shows like Daria, Duckman, and King of the Hill, showcasing a shift in his preferences over time.
