Shaq Remembers Ice Cube Preventing Release of Dr. Dre-Produced Track “Thats Gangsta”

Ice Cube acknowledged Shaq’s talent as a rapper, referring to him as a “dope” MC. However, Cube expressed his thoughts that delving into gangsta rap might not align with the image and brand that Shaq has built, which is adored by a wide audience worldwide.

Ice Cube stated, “Shaq is a dope MC, but I just felt the record was off-brand for him because, to me, he’s more than just gangsta. He’s loved by millions, loved by kids. He already established that. And why go backward when you’re already forward? You’re already a household name.”

Shaq responded by thanking Ice Cube for his guidance and mentioned that he took the experience as a lesson to always stay true to oneself. Reflecting on his own aspirations, Shaq confessed, “‘Cause I ain’t gonna lie. You guys wanna be basketball players, I wanted to be y’all growing up.”

Apart from his illustrious basketball career, Shaq also ventured into the music industry, releasing four studio albums. His debut album, “Shaq Diesel,” even achieved platinum status, showcasing his versatility as an artist.
