Childish Gambino has officially released his new album titled “Bando Stone & the New World,” marking it as his final album under the Gambino moniker. This 17-track project is described as a soundtrack to a film starring Donald Glover and is the first album from Gambino since the 2020 release of “3.15.20,” which was later reissued as “Atavista.”
In a recent interview with the New York Times, Glover shared his reasons for retiring the Gambino name, citing feelings of unfulfillment and stress dreams related to album rollouts under Glassnote Records. The decision to release his final album under RCA seemed fitting for the artist, who enlisted the help of various collaborators such as Chlöe, Amaarae, Flo Milli, Jorja Smith, Yeat, Fousheé, Khruangbin, and even his son Legend to contribute to the larger storyline of “Bando Stone.”
The lead single from the album, “Lithonia,” was released earlier this month and showcased a new sonic direction for Gambino. Fans can stream the new album on Gambino’s website, where the full project is available. This marks the end of an era for Childish Gambino, but it’s clear that his creative legacy will continue to resonate in the music industry.
